About Us - Arleen Orland, Owner/Instructor
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Ms Orland made her home in the Santa Clarita Valley in 1986
where she raised her daughter, Erin as a single parent.
Ms Orland obtained an Associate's Degree from Los Angeles City College in Child Development.
She became a Preschool Teacher for a few years, and then she worked
at various positions from banking to manufacturing.
For 15 years she trained coworkers software programs as one of her duties as a secretary.
She continued her computer skills and worked as an independent contractor
for a division of Sears to setup, install, and train clients who purchased
computers and Web TVs.
She held an instructor position at Medallion Computer School in Chatsworth, CA,
and developed a training program for an after school program for school age children.
She also taught as a Head Instructor of Office Automation for another private
computer school in Encino.
A vocational school in Van Nuys was looking for an Instructor for their Career Readiness
Program. Ms Orland helped in the development and execution of this brand new program
offered to their students prior to becoming interns. During this position as she showed
her students how to write resumes, look for and apply for jobs on the Internet and
interviewing skills, she found another computer instructor position closer to home.
Her most fulfilling job was teaching at the Gateway Country Store in Stevenson Ranch.
Unfortunately a year and a half later the store closed.
Ms Orland took some time off, worked part time jobs, and decided to go back to school
to complete her Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Management.
She then briefly worked for COC's Community Extension where she taught senior citizens
computer and needlework skills. When COC funding was cut due to the economy
Ms Orland decided this was the best opportunity for her to open a computer school of her own.
Santa Clarita Technology & Career Development Center was born.
